Finished My Super C...Decal Question?

I have lurked around this forum for quite some time. Haven't really felt the need to post a bunch of meaningless posts because usually the search function will suffice. This is a very valuable forum.

So I finally got serious about working on this 1951 Super C in November. My uncle owned this tractor since 1968. Compression tested the engine and it was okay. So we set the valves, rebuilt the carb, distributor and governer. New wiring harness gauges and lights. New front cover and water pump. New clutch and rear main seal. Belt pulley delete and new seals. New Tires. Muffler...hood...seat. Ton of other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting.

I just got the tractor back from the guy who painted it for me yesterday. He did an awesome job in my opinion! Paint is 2150 CNH paint...I used it because I knew it was the right color. Tractor will not be used much and will live in the shed. Fading not a big issue.

So my question is this...would some of you old guru's please look at my "Super C" emblem and tell me if this is correct? Gallery Link below. It does not have the white background with red letters on it like most of them I've seen. The decals came from OEM Tractor Parts. They look fine...but

Needless to say I've spent a lot of money on this thing and I want it to be right.

Thanks Guys!

I just looked in my books and the pictures seem to indicate that the Super C had the white background while the C did not. Hope this helps. Chuck

I have a 1953 Super C which I restored and used vinyl cut decals from Maple Hunter which is different then the one shown in the photo link. I think mine looks like what you are thinking are correct as the decal is all white and where the letters would be the decal is open and the red paint behind the decal bears the red color. If you send me your email address I will send you some photos in an email as I can't post photos on this forum like everyone else seems to do. My photos are stored on my PC but for the life of me (I've tried every method described by numerous folks) it just doesn't work for me - I must be missing something in the required software or I don't hold my mouth quite right is all I can guess, Hal.

The Super C decals had a white background. I have noticed that there are some showing up with a red background. They are not correct. My opinion is someone got creative with Photoshop.

Early Super A decals had a red background but they had a ribbon running thru the A that said "SUPER" Later ones had a white background just like a Super C-White circle with SUPER above the C.

Yeah, that's not the right decal. It should be a white background with clear lettering so the red paint shows through.

Our Super C is like that too, unfortunately. It was like that when we bought it.

OEM is not good for decals. I bought a Super M set from them that was wrong too. White lettering just like your Super C.

When I called them to ask, they told me that was correct. They didn't list any other decal sets for the Super M so I had to have the right one according to them.

Thanks guys...I thought they were wrong. I will check out Maple Hunter. Someone told me to stick a correct decal over the wrong one, but if the new one is clear at the letters that won't work. I bet I don't have much luck getting the old stickers off that fresh paint....

It looks to me like they are looking at decals from an old C Farmall and making them look similar and adding "Super" to the top...but I could be wrong.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Thanks!

Maple Hunter will have what you want.

But I'm wondering how your'e going to get the
wrongs ones off.

Was hardner used in the paint? If not, it's
probably still really soft.

But you probably also want to pull them as soon as
possible.

I'm not sure what I'd do. But let us know how
you make out.

Yep hardner was used. I think i may take a hair dryer and warm the decals up a bit and try to slowly get them off. Tried to call maple hunter Texas today but they must have been out. Left message.

Thanks

probably not an option on a show tractor, but if you can't get them off..........

A few tractors I've prettied up (not restored) that had decent but very age faded decals. I carefully put a coat of red paint over the old decal, then the exact same size new decal right over it.
Then the red came thru the clear parts like intended.
No one has ever noticed there are 2 stickers.

(BTW, WHAT do the factories use for decal glue!?! All brands, those old decals are the toughest thing I've ever seen to remove, clean off)
