bearing for worm drive on narrow front end

The a several weeks ago I checked with the case IHC dealer in my area for the pricing on the bearing that is on the end of the worm gear shaft controlling the narrow front end on a farmall tractor;
In Canadian dollars it was $119.00 plus taxes.(( I don't be grudge them any thing they have to make a profit and also have over head))).
On Saturday I was in a supplier >> not a bearing supplier/ just a general supplier of al types of goods.I found and purchased a bearing that looked like the one I needed for the worm gear shaft for less than 1/10 th the price& it fit perfectly.
The bearing was made by a recognizable manufacturer.
IF any one is interested in buying through me let me know and I will see if there are any more there when I am next in some time in the next 3 weeks.
The price I will give you will include shipping A WAY less than the IHC price.

Granted CASEIH is way out there on the price of that bearing however that bearing is a special one. Not an ordinary ball bearing. It has to take end thrust which a common ball bearing does not.

Not disagreeing with you Pete, but why does the same exact bearing the book called for at my IH dealer some years ago, have the exact same number, by the exact same manufacturer, that I got at my local parts store, cost almost 3 times less as the one at the IH dealer? I had the original with the IH number on it, crossed to the newest number, at the time. I couldnt visually see any difference in the original compared to the replacement. (this was on an M BTW, bigger and newer tractors may be different.) Same goes for seals. Heck, Ive even had someone tell me once the manifold studs were better at the dealer, because they came from the dealer, and would be right, whereas some from a local parts store wouldnt work, but both had the same supplier, Dorman I think.

As I said I am not faulting IHC they have to make their bills I have utilized a bearing supply for many of the bearings and seals that I have replaced in other areas of this tractor when the price and type was right;; Yet if any one is interested and repairing, presently, their narrow front end I will be pleased to assist them.

This a problem area on all older Farmalls in that bearing is used in a lot of places, however if it is for the steering worm in a heavy front load such as loader the ST678 is the right choice, its the high capacity & high dollar correct sub part for the original ST225 std ball bearing. The same bearing fits H, Super H, 300/350, M, Super M, & 400/450.

I just bought one for my MTA yesterday and it was 18 dollars and change. I have had the same bearing in my regular M for over 20 years and it has not failed.

The ST678 is a heavy duty thrust bearing. It is expensive from CIH.

I could be wrong, but IIRC there was a ST225B and either a ST225BT or ST225TB from IH. The ST225BT or TB was a "tight" tolerance bearing and had thrust capacity. The ST225B was a "loose" tolerance bearing and was not designed to function well as a thrust bearing.

I just thought I would point out that there is a difference in bearings that look identical and have same part number except maybe a different suffix. Having one in a particular tractor is one thing, but to put them in a fleet of tractors is a whole different ball game. I still don't argue that CASEIH is out of line on price but we have to compare apples to apples.

Yes there is a ST225 & ST225-- whatever, but most will sub to ST678 because CNH is assuming the worst, so they are going to send the good one to cover their butts. It all comes down to what the situation needs.
