Oil Pressure Drops

I am looking at an IH 200 with what appears to be an oil pressure/bearing issue. When it first starts the oil pressure is high, but after about an hr it falls off to the high side of the red zone on a standard IH gauge. It doesn"t smoke and there
are no engine noises. The pressure never goes below the red line zone after that. The gauge has been replaced. Any ideas?

dej(Jed), I agree with Allan, A set of Rods & Mains should tighten it up a bunch, give the old girl better and more consistent Oil Pressure. For the least amount of Work! Hope this helps

FWIW, I have a Super C with a warped end cover on the oil pump, acts just like yours. Mine probably has 200 hrs. on the bearings.

My H had the same problem til I discovered that someone had put in standard rod bearings for a .020 undersize crankshaft.

I had the same problem with a C, Jim Nicholson suggested oil pump cover gasket and he was spot on! Cost me all of about $6 to fix it, been good ever since.

Older engines especially do not need much oil pressure; what is more critical is the volume of oil supplied.
My Super C has about 5+# of pressure idling when warm and has been that way for years. Too busy (lazy?) to drop the pan & inspect.

Hydrostatic bearings don"t work without sufficient pressure. Also, at 5psi most of the oil is probably going out through the first bearing it gets to, leaving very little for the others.
