I found these for my Super MD. I don't know if they would fit your SWDR9.

I just contacted Bates about the plates last week--reproduction ones are not available. They did offer me some used ones that I was not interested in. Reproduction plates are only available for the Farmall MD/WD-6/400D/450D engines.

I posted my findings regarding the plates on RPM at the following link.

The best thing we can do is tell Bates that we want them so that they will consider reproducing them. PLEASE contact them so this gets back to them. Thanks.

Are the plates flat on those engines or is there a lot of embossing?

If flat, surely someone with a PlasmaCam could knock 'em out pretty easily.

There are two kinds. Most were stamped plates, and the last ones made on the 650's & TD-91's were made from 1/4 inch plate. The reproduction Farmall MD ones sold by Bates Equipment are the 1/4 inch plate ones--they are the better ones anyway (I would consider them a factory improvement). Note that they all have a formed baffle welded to the inside of them--it is there to direct coolant flow through the block.

Yes, they can be made. The baffle complicates it a little since there often isn't enough left of the old ones to use for a pattern. Factory made ones would be the best route to go but that doesn't appear to be an option.

Thanks for the replies. With few options I compared the 9 cover to a Farmall M cover. I just may order a new M cover, cut in half, reform the two cut ends and install. Or, plan B, I do like the 1/4" flat plate idea; I may take the baffle from the M cover and weld it to the flat plate, drill the holes and install. Anyway, it looks like the mission can be accomplished. Thanks again for your suggestions. John

Not all the M and 264 thin covers were the same on the baffles. Some were shorter than the others. Changes IH made along the way. On the thick covers that were the later replacement I thought the same ones fit a MD to a 9 series diesel. Decided to check the parts books. Unless incorrect the same thick replacement covers have the same part number for the above tractors.
Replacing the thin with thick ones sometimes needs some grinding on the cross shaft casting for clearance.

Interesting details. I just started looking at some parts books too after reading your post. There do appear to be some differences throughout production of the header plates. The ones they show for the MD and WD-9 might be the same. The don't appear to show the baffles and there is no "front" and "rear". They are the same. The Super WD-9 lists a "front" and "rear" and shows the baffles. Part numbers WD-6 (MD) = 51313D, WD-9 = 51313DA, Super WD-9/Super WDR-9 = 264416R22 (front) & 264360R12 (rear). Now I am really wondering if the Farmall MD ones will work on the Super WD-9/Super WDR-9. I could have sworn I measured them at one time, but now I am thinking my memory isn't worth a ****! I will take some more measurements as soon as I get an opportunity.

I have some that could give you a start. They are stamped and the deflector things are rotted/rotting off but there is tin riveted to them to rebuild them a little. They are nowhere near as good as good ones, but better than nothing.

I have one more parts motor that may have good ones. But that is going to be a while. First I have to build an engine stand and then get time to take things apart.

Centex Farmall may have some used ones. He just came into a flock of 9 series machines.

Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. I contacted Bates, looked at photos of what they had and purchased two from them. The baffles are a little corroded but they will work fine. After all this discussion and looking through all the 9 series and MD parts books I have determined that the covers are in fact all interchangeable. As what was a habit with IH, the numbers for the MD and a particular 9 series machine (wheeled or tracked), are reversed front to back and vice versa; but they are really all interchangeable. Now, I think I know just about all I need to know about water jacket covers for my SWDR9. Whew! John
