I have a 51 M with an alternator on it. It has a fuse block? in the wire from the ignition switch to the coil. This has gone bad due to age. What can I replace it with and what does it do? Thank you.

It is a resistor. It drops the current from the 12 volt battery down to 6 volts for the ignition system. Take it off, and bring it with you to an auto parts store, such as N.A.P.A. Many older Chrysler products used something very similar.

Take it off and take it with you as a 'sample'.The parts store will get you set up.BTW,I bet a steak dinner its a resistor. To be sure that is your problem,'bypass', hook directly to points. If it runs, you found the problem. A few minutes of running without wont hurt a thing.
