Farmall H governor bearings

My bearings on the governor are shot. How easy is it to replace these yourself? Looking at the parts manual I am not sure what I all need to remove to get to them. Thought I would ask before I get in over my head.

Also, I've read where it is a good idea to replace the pins for the weights so that they are tight. How does one remove these? Thanks.

Pretty straight forward on taking it apart to get to the bearings. The thrust bearing(small one operating off the weights) is a special bearing though and not just any ball bearing will do a good job of governing as it is a thrust bearing. As far as pins, they just drive out, but just replacing them won't do much as the weights wear just as much. May even get worse. I drill them and use roll pins but it takes a little doing as the holes wear oblong and then the weight has to be free on the pin and pin has to be tight in carrier.

Thanks for information. I think I can handle changing the bearings but as far as the pins are concerned I think I need to let a professional handle that. I'm just handy enough to get myself in trouble. Here's another question then, should I change the pins and weights or will the bearings be sufficient enough for the time being?

That all depends on just how loose and floppy the weights are.

Rustyfarmall....what do you mean by loose and floppy? The weights lift away from the shaft easily but don't have much give otherwise. Would these be considered loose? Again, just a rookie. I

If there is very little side to side or back and forth movement, you should be good to go.

pete 23 I'm a little unsure how to get to the thrust bearing. I need to take the rockshaft off to get to it and also the governor shaft itself. I am assuming that I need remove the bushings and the plugs that are in the housing in order to slide the shafts. Is this correct? If so, what would be the best way to remove these without damaging the ends of the shafts. I don't want to pry on them or drill on anything I shouldn't. Thanks again

Randy, your pictures look great. Are those new weights that you put in or were they the old ones just cleaned up? At the Case IH online parts site it quotes each weight at $250. A little pricey for my budget right now.
