Tire Size for Farmall 460

Confession: I don't know how to measure a tire rim for width. My Farmall 460 currently has 13.6 x 38. I think that is original factory spec for size. Would it be possible and would it be better if I'd go to 15" tires? I was thinking perhaps a bit more traction and perhaps a bit more weight, but maybe more expensive too???Opinions, hopefully based on experience, welcome. Thanks kelly

You just measure the inside of the rim, between the beads. I would think the 15.5s might get you a bit more traction, they are the same height as a 13.6 but wider. My 300 has 14.9s which are taller and thus increase speeds slightly. I guess it is partly a matter of what you can find. If you are buying new then you could do anything.

You my get more traction with 13.6 tires ,if the sides round out very much the tread doesn't sit flat on the ground . If I were wanting more traction I would use 18.4 X 34 tires and wheels or 13.6 X 38 rice and cane , depending on application . If you are cultivating row crop the wide tires would be a hindrance if tractor pulling the wide tires hold the ground better . It is your tractor make it what you want .
