706 Remote Valve Rework

Ok guys, I reworked the remote valve on the 706 because it started leaking out the back when I was using the loader with an external spool valve. It had a gouge in the o-ring for the detent catch piston.

The valve works great now, the only problem is, it is very stiff. It doesn't return to center like it used to. If I pull back on the valve, it just sticks there. I understand it is supposed to stick with the detent, but it just sticks up or down wherever you put it.

It isn't the end of the world since I had to tie the remote valve back to use the loader. I just like having things work the way they are supposed to.

What could be the problem? I checked everything and it is reassembled according to the shop manual.

Did you take the whole valve off the tractor. If so, I bet you tightened the three long bolts holding valves on too tight. Max of 25 ft lbs. Common problem. The screw in back is to adjust the unlatching pressure which if set too tight will make valve unlatch hard but will move free once unlatched.

I just took the spool out of the valve. The valve body stayed on the tractor.

It almost feels like the spool is binding in the valve body.

In that case, how easily did the spool go back in. Some times they will make a small hump on the lever end from the linkage touching it and then they will not come out easy and score the body a little if you don't file that hump off. Also, when I put the spool back in I always reach around the front and pull the valve through after pushing it in far enough to get ahold of the end. Other possibility, did you have two valves out at same time and mix them up. Not much else I can think of off hand.

Well, I guess I will take it back apart to see if there is something hanging up.

There was only one valve that I took apart.
