Farmall A Knock Knock is no joke.

My Farmall A has a knock in the trans that happens when the clutch is released and in neutral. Haven’t noticed it in other gears. Thanks

The trans has an aluminum oil slinger that looks like a real gear but slings oil. If the tractor is used as a stationary power source, it needs this gear to keep the trans fully lubricated. this gear/slinger fails. Pulling the top off is an easy way to take a look at that gear. Jim

it has been so long. ???? throw out bearing makes a noise when clutch is depressed, i think. clutch pilot bushing will make a noise when clutch is released. maybe clutch pilot bushing.

+1 on the oil slinger. I have one apart now to replace. Pretty big job and several "might as wells" while I have it apart has slowed me down. The oil slinger is available aftermarket. It rides on a bronze bushing, and when the bushing wears out, it flops around enough to self-destruct. I understand the slinger is really only needed if you are doing stationary work (flat-belt), but there still will need to be a place holder if it is not replaced.
