Is there a way to greaase the pilot bushing without splitting? The P..B... is sticking, seems to be needing to be greased. The clutch was replaced about 6 years ago, doesnt have too many hrs.BTW,this is my wifes tractor ('Chloe'),she doesn't like the grinding/gear clash one bit!!

Don"t know, but you might check to see if there"s a hole under the flywheel, like on the "H", where the grease fitting rotates around each rev. Have to s-l-o-w-l-y rotate my "H" to find the fitting. If I'm remembering right ...

Hi DeltaRed, not on the SC we had. We had to split it every couple years and replace the pilot bushing.
It had a Henderson FEL on it and there was a lot of clutching. In the early 1950s my Dad had the only FEL in the nieghbourhood and he did a lot of custom work loading manure and even gravel for the local township. So the SC did a lot of FEL work in a year.

Delta, Have her move the gear shift lever all the way to the right and try and push it forward (there is no gear there) and hold it firmly forward a coupe of seconds and I believe you will find that position acts like a transmission brake when changing gears stopping the gears for a clash free shift. I have found that works very well on my SC and 140 when shifting between gears. Hope this helps as someone mentioned it on this forum a long time ago and I found it really does helps a lot, Hal.

adjust the clutch.
heaviest oil specified in the trans.
use the shifter 'dead' spot gear brake trick.(with my SC's that's usually all that's needed.)
depending on the operators safety consciousness, leave the belt pulley engaged for more drag.

Above all, be patient
as an example, on my SH which has no belt pulley, just the assembly and flange. I leave it engaged so the flange is spinning.
Pushing the clutch in when the oil is warm, it takes quite awhile for the flange to stop rotating.
When it stops....shift
Same with other models inside the trans, just not as easy to see.

If the transmission is rotating constantly, the pilot bushing needs to be replaced, not greased.

Was it replaced when the clutch was replaced?
