At $1200 it needs more than fuel pump work, I'm sure.

A 504 diesel is pretty rare and valuable tractor, but the parts to fix it are also pretty rare and valuable.

got our 504 diesel 6-7 years ago, decent tractor but ive always hated the glow plugs, seems like they hardly ever work. blew the head gasket last year so its sittin in the shop waiting for me to find a replacement.

no they dont have a pony motor. only other problem ive run in to is the 3 point doesnt seem like it lift as high as other tractors its size. so ive had problems not bein able to use my culitvators with it.

ta lever was missing wheels bad .one was off an M..motor did turn over after we drug it in 5th gear... wiring was rough.said ta would lock up.

Sounds like a basket case. I have an International 504 gas which has been a good tractor but there are no wrecks around my area to find parts for it. This tractor has been in the family since new. It is not a real common tractor so CNH has limited parts for them as well. I wouldn't buy a 504 that needs quite a bit of work unless I had good access to a parts tractor or better yet, owned a parts tractor.

Pros: Good power steering, 3 point hitch, hydraulics, & IH 2001 loader. TA has been good but tractor is not used for pulling.

Cons: Poor brakes (since new), clutch "grabs" even when you try to let it out slowly (always has--not much fun trying to pin an implement to it), lots of little oil leaks because there are so many oil lines on it.

It doesn't sound like anything you'd want to tackle, dewy. Sounds more like a parts tractor to me.

thanks to everyones inputs..just knowing it was rare before i went
to look at it ,made the difference.. thanks again,,,,p.s. i new i was
in trouble when a green tractor was pullin it off in 5th..dewy

I have several 340's and think that parts are more plentiful , similar tractor older and less ponies but I'm not to much on the D166 or D188, most of mine are gas 1 diesel and it needs parts $$$.
