fuel problem?

went to start 300 today for first tim ein about 4 mouths after replacing flywheel ring gear. so went to start it back fired then started and sounded just like a old 2 cylinder john deere! so turned it off flushed out tank and bowl put new line on and fired it up. still the same so I had drove it home about 2 miles with it missing and got home and let it sit and run for about 5 min and went to throttle up and boom! backfired and turned off and it want fire back up. I was running fine before we had to do all of this stuff to it. and I had cleaned out bottom of carb and there was some dirty gas in it.

I will check about valves tomorrow afternoon do you just spin the engine over with out coil plug hooked up and gas shut off im guessing?

Putting the wires on the wrong cap terminals will also do it.

Clockwise (assumes #1 is 1:30 on the clock face), and that #1 is front cylinder. Jim

try a new set of points an condensor? point contacts could have a burn spot. condensor could be fried. both would cause those symtoms. good luck.

I am betting a lot of people are going to find problems like this come warm weather. We had one he-- of a cold and damp winter and any half a--s problem is gonna show up to bust our butts. Check for corrosion on your little contacts in side the dist. cap. The CHEEEEEP caps have aluminum where the good ones are copper. Look at the rotor and that little carbon. LOADS of headaches!!! Spray the cap inside with a little brake cleaner to remove any oil or grease. This will cause the spark to run around inside the cap. Points are another thing and also a distributer in need of a rebuild is the last stop. If this is a 6 volt tractor the problem factor just went up. Everything needs to be clean and solid.
