1948 slight tap under load

My c runs well. It could idle all day. Even reving it up it sounds fine. Thing is, the oil pressure appears low. It raises up when I rev it but on idle the needle is all the way on the low side.
When it's cold the pressure is higher.
When it's hot and you work it hard, I can hear a slight tap/knock. It's barely audible and only happens when it's worked hard. I am thinking the oil pump screen might be clogged. Thoughts would be appreciated.

The mains and rod bearings are the only pressurized inserts in the engine. My input would be the oil pump cover (end plate) deformity. Flat polish the plate to remove warp. clearance to gears is .0005 to .001" set with shim gaskets (very thin) from caseIH. Jim

I agree with Jim, but will also add that incorrect engine oil or oil that is way past time to change can have the same effects.

Dropping the pan and working over the oil pump is not as big a deal as it might seem. You'll probably also be amazed at the amount of sludge in the bottom of the oil pan.
