looking at a farmall 350 at a dealership. they supposedly replace the main cluth but know thwe t/a is slipping on both the high and lowside.i thought with and bad t/a it would still pull on the high side.they are asking 1000$ as is.it fired right up.after sitting since October.the repair shop manager just rubbed me the wrong way.he said he has been doing this for 50 years.he said he knows vhat he is talking about.they would replace the ta for another 1000$the qeution is /is it worth it or a money pit.the previous owner cut his losses and ran.i realize it could make acheap tractor but do I really want to sink a new t/a in something that I only heard run for 5 minites.or sould I run too.

I would say it depends somewhat on the condition of the rest of the tractor, but assuming that it has good tires and the hydraulics and PTO work well it sounds like it could be a good deal either to buy and fix the TA yourself or to have them do it, if you think they will do it well. I have a 300 and am very happy with it and the 350 is very similar.

Slip in direct drive = T/A clutch slipping.
In T/A slip = ramp and roller assembly not locking the T/A carrier from spinning.
Also will add that you can remove the linkage pins from the T/A clutch operating shaft and see if it still slips in direct drive. That's just a check to make sure they don't have the T/A clutch linkage adjusted wrong before replacing the clutch. If slipped for a while it may still need replaced though. Also check for oil leaking out 2 weep holes in the bottom of the center housing. May indicate possible oil on the clutch.

$1000 is cheap for a 350.Even without a TA.If the rest is in good share, why is it not sitting in your shop right now?

Slipping on the high side may be a simple adjustment of the linkages on the side of the torque tube. Someone may have the linkage that runs from the clutch pedal to the TA too short in an attempt to make the tractor shift smoothly, and it's holding the TA clutch partially disengaged.

As long as it hasn't been run too long that way, it will be ok.

Next step would be to replace the TA clutch. This is a single split at the bell housing. Not too bad.

Really with a 350, if you have a decent shop and an engine hoist, you can pull the TA section yourself.
