well I thought I had it running good. I got it to spark and it fired right up and ran good.........for a while. then gas started overflowing out the carb. It started smoking and sputtering and then quit. I am assuming its time to rebuild the carb.

My guess is that the float did not push the main jet shut and the carb. overfilled with gas.

Also make sure the air cleaner is not plugged with something or the oil in the bath is not real dirty. It would not make carb overflow, but it could stop it from running right.

Make sure the float is not dragging on the sides of the float chamber. It might stick that way. I used a Dremel to smooth out the sides on my "H".

If you pulled this tractor out of a barn or off a fencerow somewhere, the carburetor is probably gummed up with old gas residue and who knows what.

ALWAYS a good idea to pull the carburetor apart, clean it, and at least put new gaskets in.

It might be as simple as the float rubbing on the sidewall of the carb and not closing the needle. I would pull the carb, split it, make sure the float does not have a hole in it and go from there. If the float is not full of gas check the travel of the float and see if it rubs anywhere. The needle valve and seat could be worn too. It is easy enough to throw a new needle and seat in it but it can be tough to get a good quality replacement. Anymore it seems like new needle valve and seat kits can leak right out of the box.
