Just got me a international 656 have a 75 ford 3000 quit a difference in size lol. Got a few questions does anyone know of a place to download free user manual. I don't know what anything does on this tractor. I bought the tractor and hauled it 150 miles to the place. And the dang thing wouldn't start after running plenty fine and starting fast the twenty times I've been looking at it lol. Just my luck. I'm pretty sure its not getting diesel as it only has a quarter tank and was downhill when I tried to start it. Anyways after trying to get it off trailer was trying to turn it and it would just barely while not running but when i kept trying the steering wheel jobs just turns now and don't turn the wheels. It has a slightbhydraulic leak ingress from steering and I've heard from a few places this is normal for itn not to turn as it is hydraulic power steering. Is this true? I sure hope I didn't ruin anything. Indolent live up there so I ran out of time before I got a chance to check diesel. But at first while cranking it was getting a little black smoke then it just quit. Shot a little ether whichninknow is not good but just used a dab it would fore and thenninstantly die.Sounds to me like its not getting diesel you think? Anyways anyone that can maybe email manual or know a place for free it sure would help and any more advice I sure am proud of it finally going to be able to start baling my own hay

I don't know of any place to download a free manual. Printed ones are $20-$30. Do yourself a favor and buy one. It's a mere fraction of what you spent on the tractor.

Did you turn the fuel on before you tried to start it? If not you ran it out of fuel and now you will need to bleed the entire system.

With 1/4 tank of fuel the tractor should run on any angle it will sit on. That's not your problem.

Did you run the glow plugs? Do the glow plugs work? Don't use ether on glow plug engines.

There is air in the steering now due to the leak and you trying to steer it without the tractor running. It may clear up once you get it running.

Ok good I was hoping i didnt break anything I used glow plugs first and then when it didnt start waited twenty minutes before i tried ether. I was just thinking the rattling and bumps from the hundred mile trip may have got some junk from the tank clogging something up. There's a drip every now and then from directly above steering of hydraulic fluid so I'm guessingbits from the steering. I also have the left lift cylinder on loader leaking you can see where the seal is kinda out on one side but yet the arms are not bleeding down. Is there any way to knock that side of seal back in without pulling cylinder? Thanks so much for your help. I thinkin got a pretty good deal on it paid 3200 its got 7000 hours on it very little blowby and got a seven foot john Deere sickle mower for 300 with new teeth that works flawlessly also gonna pick up a side rake not sure brand but he wants three hundred also it works excellent you can rake dirt with it haha here's a pic of tractor

Can you tell any info on it by picture like is it a row crop or industrial year model the guy wasn't even sure thanks again

Order a book ASAP.Either here from YT,or 'Binder
books'.A book is/will be the cheapest
thing/part/accessory you will EVER buy for your
tractor.Even more so for a 'NEWBIE'.Congrats and
good luck with your new tractor!

What do you have the throttle set at when trying to start it? If it is all the way up, that is the fuel stop to shut off the engine. Open it up a little and try again.

Takes a good bit of glow plug heating to start them even if you
don't think it's cool out heats the chamber to help light the fuel
do it 15 seconds worth easy

It's a row-crop, the adjustable front axle and
adjustable rear tread width are how you tell.
Also, it should say FARMALL on the 656 emblems if
they are still there(can't see them in the
picture).

Looks like a good workhorse, and you got a good
deal on it as long as nothing unexpected shows up.

If running out of fuel is why it won't start,
you'll need to do some bleeding, which would be a
good reason to order a shop manual along with the
operator's manual.

I second the ether comment. Don't do it on a glow plug engine
bad things could happen

Those old engine need good working glow plugs and they take
a while to Heat up . Not like a modern tractor that only
requires less that 30 seconds.

Once hot they start fairly easy. If they are marginal in any
way you'll crank it to the cows come home and it won't start

Their are some Manuel's on this site, eBay or even the local
oh dealer

Change the filters, bleed the system and make sure the glow
plugs are in tip top shape .

Get the biggest battery you can as one battery is better than
the 2 battery system it had. One battery has less terminals

Carquest has a 1200 amp jumbo car size battery that should fit
by the seat

Good battery clean filters and good glow plugs and your
starting problems will be gone

Good luck with it
