Hydraulic for IH 300 Utility

I've had "Bill" for 40 years. Just had new hoses and piston installed.
The system is slow and sluggish! I suspect a filter or screen is
clogged. Where is the screen and or filter. Please be specific, I'm a
retired educator not a real mechanic. RBilello

The Screen (no filter) is under the seat. And under the top cover of the reservoir. Not a fun issue to deal with. The screens get plugged up and collapse. Warn your wallet, if buying a new one, that it will be flat.
Purchasing mesh stainless steel, and fabing one is what I do. A little brazing and a spring inside to hold shape. The lid is heavy. Jim

OH boy are you in for a lot of fun. That "TOP" is VERY HEAVY and need to be carefully pried straight up to get them loose. I can"t remember but I thing they are pinned. A big honkin motor lift with the jack up pump lift should do ya. Too many people use teflon tape all of the way out to the end of the threads. WRONGGGGGGG. Sucks in to the filter and makes a pancake out of it. Have fun Jeffcat

Sounds like removing the transmission cover on my tractor. I rigged up a pulley / chain fall assembly , chained up to the rafters, and slowly pulled straight up. It was the thing to do, becuase I was also pulling up the shifter forks, and they should never be bent.
Also helpful to slowly lower straight down.
Sounds dramatic, but it's easy.

HI I have one apart now. There is no pin or stud to realign. The casting is heavy maybe 80#, or more. Under the seat are threaded holes. Get some bolts to fit and you have a spot to hitch an engine hoist, block & tackle, whatever. Before lifting, try to move the casting sideways. You may be able to save the gasket to re-use. Hit a piece of wood on the casting with a 12# hammer, not hard, just a good thump or 2 on each corner.
Budget a new gasket as the "in a tube" stuff will most likely leak somewhere.
Get some threaded rod with same thread as main mounting bolts. Use 4- 8 inch sections (on the corners)just finger tight to hold the gasket in place. Then lower the tank down over the threaded rods. Then put in the other 8 bolts, then remove rods and put in corner bolts, tighten up.
Oh yeah, number the bolts as you remove them as there are different lengths.

I am overwhelmed with all the support! Attacking it very slowly. I've already loosened the bolts and making a hoist system in place. I'm assuming I have to remove lever control unit.......Thanks so much!

I"ve got the cover up and the filters are indeed collapsed and extremely dirty. Does that filter unscrew? What can I use to clean the tank?
