1566 road gear

My dad just bought a 1566 with 20.8-38 tires for tractor ride tractor wondering how fast they go if it will keep up with my g1355 which does around 19.

Tractor data shows top speed on a 1466 at 20.3 mph with 18.4 x 38s. So I would think a 1566 should be about the same if not a little faster.

Have to take in consideration the 1566 didn't have High/Low 4. So it going to be slower in High 3.

High third in a 15 is direct drive to engine crankshaft when in direct drive TA same as high 4th is in a 14. The difference in road speed is due to the gear reduction at the ring and pinion on back down through the planetary gears in final drive. In other words, the pinion turns same speed as engine on both the 14 or 15 and also an H Farmall all the way up through to the 1586. The smaller tractors like a C had the pinion on lower shaft in transmission (not on plane with engine crankshaft) and thus it"s speed is relative to the gear reduction in the transmission.

A 1566 and 1586 in high 3rd is 15 mph not like a 1486 that is 20 mph . The 15's have a 6 speed, 12 with TA, and the 14's on down have a 8 speed, 16 with TA, transmission's.
