Last fall I bought a farmall 460. It carries about 30 lb of oil
pressure when cold and 25 lb when warm. It does not have the
original IH gauge and the line going from the engine to the
gauge is the smallest diameter I have ever seen. When I first
looked at it I thought it was a wire. Is that the size of the
original line or has it been replaced? Thanks in advance.

Oil pressure lines can be small because the fluid does not compress. Normally on those I am framiliar with, they are one eighth inch dia. It just needs to move the gauge mechanism by reshaping a Bourdon Tube. Cubic Millimeters of flow. The temp gauge is operated by a capillary tube with a fluid (like Ether) contained in it and the sensing bulb on the engine end. it is very thin as well. Jim

If the line attaches to the head, it is water temp capillary. (They are that size) If leading to the block, it is probably oil pressure. Both can be small. Jim

Jim. It goes from the block to the oil pressure gauge. I guess I need to go look at another 460 and see what it has.
