IH sickle bar mower on an M?

There is a 3 point IH sickle bar mower at an auction tomorrow morning that I'm going to look at. I have the belly pump (right hydraulic outlet) running the Saginaw hitch (tee'd to each cylinder). I'm assuming the mower has one hose to drop and raise the bar, is there anyway to run the hitch and the mower at the same time (without adding a spool valve) or will I have to unhook the hitch and use the mower with the hitch all the way down? I really don't want to add a spool valve, will the mower be ok without the option to raise or lower the unit? thanks for the help, ~Anthony

If you put a 1/4 turn hydraulic valve in the hose to the hitch, and another in the line going to the mower cyl. you can lock the hitch where you want it, then open the mower valve to use it.

That's assuming your 3 point cylinders do not leak down, but if they do leak slowly, you could switch the valves back and re-set it every so often. If the cylinders do not leak, you could run a long time that way.

Hi, the IH 3pt 7 ft sickle bar mower that we had
did not require an additional hydraulic cylinder to
lift the cutter bar. It was a model C27 I think.
There was a lever that went under the left lower
3pt link that when the 3pt was raised would raise
the cutter bar. The amount of lift could be
adjusted by a chain connected to the lever.

That is how mine is done as Jim has mentioned. I
have a needle valve installed before the cylinders
for my three point hitch. I just set the three point
arms up enough t be out of the way, then shut the
needle valve off and plug in the implement to the
remote couplers that are installed. Works great.

Got to the auction this morning and there was over a 1,000 people there for less than 40 items. over 1.5 miles of cars lined up on both sides, I just kept on going, didn't need the mower that bad, but I appreciate the help, I'm still in the market for one but i'll find a farmer selling one outright, I don't do crowds anymore. ~Anthony
