accelarater peddle

I have an accelarater peddle on my ID9 tractor . When stepped on engine speed increases , as I always thought it should. But reading an article on the ID9 tractor it states that it should decrease engine speed? Does any one know what is right? Or is it possible to have it hooked so it can operate one way or the other?

the rice versions had a decellerator pedal to make it easier when crossing ditches ect. pretty sure the industrials had the pedal set up for an accelerator. airport tug was a common home for the industrial tractors.

I agree, dont mess with it,leave as is.I also agree with Glen, the rice was the other way.We here in furrow irrigation we have lots of ditches to cross.Being able to slow down to cross ditches(and water marks on ends) would sure be handy!

Its called a decelerator, because you take your foot off of it to decelerate when using the pedal vs the throttle handle. The engine is meant to be run wide open, as in pedal down. It was explained to me by someone on here some time back when I asked about it on my I-4.

thank you everyone for your information. The tractor was once owned by the US Air-force they have an airbase in western Ny. It must have been used to tow airplanes around.

You're describing an accelerator pedal. A decelerator is for use when you want to maintain a steady engine speed and only slow down for short periods. It slows the engine when you step down on it.
