Dad bought a M in about 2008. After his death in 2011 I got the tractor and use it on my 20 acres and for hay rides. My question is how long will the points last. I have never even looked into the mag since Dad got the M. I had a 9n for 15 years and changed the points often. Not bad mouthing the Ford it was a good tractor just asking about the M.

Mag points can last years. But like anything they wear and need adjustment and a bit of polishing once a year or so. The amount of current flowing through them is a close equal to the current in a conventional distributor. Setting is .013". Do not get the rotor out of time when servicing the points, it will be taken off, and is gear driven. Jim

The points will last for many yrs my mowing B has been running for 15 yrs now since i rebuilt the engine and never hav changed points ect. The BN has been on tractor rides for 12yrs and parades with a mag never any problems. Just service a mag that sets in a nice cement shed and those points were burnished and needed to be cleaned to get fire. Mine set in closed shop dirt floor socondensationis never a problem.
