Steam Engine

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the average value of a non-restored, non-running steam engine that was sat outside for a long time?

Thanks.

There's many aspects to valuing a steamer. Depending on condition, completion, and make/model it has the potential for being worth something. If its just a boiler that has been in a spillway for decades being target practiced at its scrap value. As far as a specific value if its complete, I'm honestly not sure. If the boiler is degraded to far, its still worth something for parts and pieces of the rest of it. If the boiler checks out good and it's complete, it is worth the effort to bring home. All depends on make/model as well

A steam engine or a traction engine???

Much agree with what Ethan says.

It's pretty much all about the condition of the boiler these day. Some repair is tolerable, but boiler replacement can be VERY expensive.

Swing over to SMOKSTAK.COM under the steam forums and ask for help over there. Hopefully you can find someone local to help you evaluate it.

Photos would be a good start.
