T 340 trouble

A friend was moving snow with his t340 when all of a sudden engine went screaming outta control he shut it down checked all linkage found no problem pulled carb and butterfly was gone heads od screws worn off
He pulled manifold off and no sing of it so he pulled the head and nothing inside no sign of anything no scratches dings nothing
Where did it go?
Is it possible it would have chewed it up with no trace?
Please any input
Thanks dan

It is up against an intake valve. It will not fit through, and it must be gotten out! A magnet might work. A bore scope will find it or probing carefully. Jim

I wouldn't worry about it. Most likely the butterfly plate got crushed when it passed through the intake valve, got further crushed as it bounced around in the cylinder then was blown out the exhaust.

Incidentally the throttle butterfly is brass and pretty soft - it's not likely it caused any damage as it passed thru the engine.

Tip: When you install the new throttle butterfly be sure to stake the new screws so it doesn't happen again!!
