Looking for a diagnosis

I went to start up my H after sitting for about a month. After running for 1 minute I heard a pop and then engine seized. Fearing the worst I went to start it up and it starts/runs fine. When I begin disengaging the clutch, even if it isn't in gear the engine bogs down and starts to kill. When I put it in gear and start releasing the clutch, it doesn't grab any gears and again starts to bog and kill. It runs smooth when I have the clutch engaged. I know something is really wrong, but before I go tearing it apart, I am looking to narrow down my checklist. Any thoughts on what happened? Did something pop in the clutch housing? Transmission? Let me know your thoughts.
 
sounds like it is stuck in two gears. see if the tractor will roll in neutral with the engine off. if not, you will need to pull the shifter up out of the deck and go in with a big screwdriver and re-align the shift rods.
 
It does move just fine in neutral with engine off and the shifter seems fine. So now I don't think it is in the transmission. Would it make sense that a spring snapped on the clutch housing.
 
Or one more thought, could it be the hydraulic unit? I replaced the old one with a used hydraulic. Maybe if I pull that first and try running the tractor to see if that is my problem. Any thoughts that could be my issue?
 
could be something seized up in the belly pump. if it was a recent install, drop the pump out and see if the problem persists.
 
Check make sure you hydra rod is not pulled back I don't think that would stall it but worth a check
What is temperatures been below freezing? Mabe moisture in hydraulics and frooze up

You can just remove the liftall coupling shaft to eliminate that as the problem. If removing the shaft doesn't help put the transmission in neutral and block the clutch pedal down. Put the PTO in gear and try turning the PTO shaft backwards from normal rotation. If something is wedged between the constant mesh teeth that may dislodge it. If that's it, wouldn't want to use it until the problem is looked at.
 
I would pull the shift lever to make sure the rails are lined up and that the tranny isnt locked in two gears at once just because the shift lever moves doesent mean that the tranny isnt locked in two gears. Your tranny mite also be frozen with snoe ice and that could have locked the gears too.
 
He says it rolls good in neutral. Wouldn't that rule out being in two gears or any gear? Probably rule out ice also because it also will usually lock the bull gears before or the same time as lower transmission shaft.
 
So I take it you popped the shifter out and moved the forks around or did you have to take the platform off to fix your problem?
 
I thought of that. The first thing I am going to do is remove the shifter and use a screw driver to get it back to neutral. If that doesn't work I will move the belt pulley. Third would be to pull the platform. Thanks for the advice. It helps alot!
 
Yes it is in an unheated shed and after this winter in Wisconsin just about everything is froze. I do think it is stuck in two gears after talking with some people. I will check the hydraulics to see if they are engaged. Thanks for the help.
 
I am going to go with your first diagnosis of two gears stuck. I really think that was it. I thought I heard the pop come from the transmission after it ran for 1 minute. I have ruled out anything in the clutch housing. I would hear that rattle and that isn't my problem. After I work with the shifter rod, I will work on the belly pump. I installed a used one to replace the old pump and maybe something has gone wrong or broke again.
 
Maybe I misunderstood your other post where you said rolls fine in neutral. if you didn't mean the tractor and rear tires rolled okay with shifter in neutral, disregard my other post.
 
All I had to do was pull the shifter and basically stick a screwdriver in and pry it around. Hasn't done it since, that was 2 seasons ago.
