I'm looking at putting a set of duals on the 1086. Thinking about just putting another set of wheels just like the ones on it. I notice most people either use those 9 or 10 bolt hubs or snap ons. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to just put another set of wheels on the ends of the axle? It's going to be the disking tractor so I probably won't ever take them back off.

In the plains it's common for the duals to be another full set of centers/rims. Your tire guy is going to have to have a crane/boom truck or you'll have to be there with your loader to fix inner tires is all.

All of the duals around here are axle mount. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a clamp on set. They are usually on for the life of the tractor or until it sells or something. My neighbor only has one tractor that doesn't have duals - an old 4020 with a loader on it. Even the spraying tractor has duals.

If you have room on the axle go for it.

The extra weight for traction won"t hurt either.

The first duals I had on my 1086 were clamp on. Never could keep the wheel wedges tight with those duals on so the clamp on's went to the auction and 9 bolt hub types went back on. They were used and I did have to weld the center ring back on both of those duals eventually. I partly blame that on using a three point hitch five shank Deere v ripper that sucked in the black soil we have and had no mercy on the tractor. Now I have duals that appear to have been sold by IH as they have much heavier hubs bigger U bolts and thicker red colored rims. (might be wrong on the IH )

So look around before you buy your hub type duals. If they are used look for a cracked weld in the bolt hole ring in the center and look for partially stripped lug bolts and holes. Mine went on and off the tractor twice a year so there was more chance to wear out the lug bolt threads. Usually duals for a 1086 sized tractor are 9 bolt but if you find duals with 10 bolt hubs go for it. Jim

The Idea you have about just adding whole rear wheels and tires will work (my dad and grandfather did that with the m in the 40s)the other talk about duals 10 bolt seem to hold up the best but do cost more. good luck
