I am working on a project that I thought was 99% finished untill I started the motor,to find out the govenor is shot. Can I replace the weights and iner coponets with out removing the govenor from the tractor,by removing the cover.I hate the thought of removing the gas tank and every thing else that has to be removed

James, When you say shot! what is shot?
I have replaced weights and pins and put in a new thruster bearing, and even add a washer to one to take out the play. with out remove the govenor from the tractor. If it is shot more than that like shaft or gear than you will have to pull it. oldiron29

I had the governor off on my f 12 and it isn't that hard of a job. I just loosened the gas tank straps, took the hood off so you can disconnect the linkage from the carb. Remove the two bolts from the front fuel tank support. Disconnect the throttle linkage. After you take out the three bolts holding the gov. On you can pull it out and with a little wiggling remove it. It would be a lot easier to work on it with it off. This is from memory so I might have missed something.
