Cub lo boy 1964 rear seal.

Wondering about changing the rear oil seal. Does tractor need split or can it be changed via oil pan, also looking for a hood for a 1964 cub lo- boy.

Got to be split. Then remove the retainer. Problem is the right seal is no longer being made, and the one that's available doesn't fit quite right. Somebody, somewhere, is fixing the retainer to accept a different seal, but I just shimmed in the last couple Ive done.

If you go on the Cub forum you should be able to find the name of the fella who was doing that. He was located just a few miles south of me here and I am ashamed to say I cannot recall the name as I spent a pleasant hour in his shop passing time with him. Can't say for sure he is still around because the last several years were hard on folks in his business around here. Anyhow, you send him your retainer and he will send you one machined to fit the new seal. Mine has been in for a few years now and never a drip. Someone on the Cub forum will get you a link to him or another source. It's an easy enough repair. Loboy comes apart without too much trouble as long as you support everything real well and don't tip over the front half as it IS gonna want to fall on you. Seal is no big deal, just got to get the clutch lined up on reassembly and I actually made my alignment tool out of a dowel wrapped in duct tape cause I didn't have the real thing. Works fine now. Check out everything else within reach while you have her apart. Mine is a 57 Loboy. Draws more attention than any other tractor I own.

Phil Lenke. Just like that it came to me. Go on farmallcub dot com and ask for him. If he isn't doing it I bet someone else is.

Phil isn't doing it any more. If you go to the forum section of farmallcub.com and look for user "tst" you will find the current source of the reworked retainers.

By the way, the problem is that the retainers warp over time and no longer put a tight grip on the original seals. The rework opens them up enough for a standard seal with a slightly larger OD.

Jim, I thought it was a different seal? I know the
one I put in my Cub was like a couple of thousanths
smaller than one I took out. I swore I read
somewhere that was the problem.
