My first attempt to make repairs to a clutch. And, I'm wondering why they call it a throwout bearing when there is no bearing in the throwout piece. There is a carbon-like material on the front face of the throwout - is this front-face material considered a bearing or is there ball or needle bearing under this carbon-like material? I assume there are two pieces to the throwout bearing and the carbon-like material piece was pressed into the throwout piece. This carbon-like material will not rotate in the throwout piece. Is it suppose to? Is the carbon-like material piece replaceable or does one have to purchase the whole assembly? The carbon-like material is dished, maybe 1/16", from wear on the front face. Does this matter or can the face be machined flat?
