Confusion about T/A additive

For a better understanding of why the additive a picture of a SMTA and a 350D owners manual.
IH started out with the 80 gear oil and had problems. Then they went to a light engine oil and T/A additive to be added or mixed as shown in the 350 manual. This was before Hytran.
Notice in the 350 manual when the additive was sold it specified to use it full strength in the steering gear housing on it and other tractors.
