Starter problems- 100

I have a farmall 100. I had my starter rebuilt and had one of the newer kind of bendix put on it. when I put the starter back on, it turns but doesn't engage. Any explanations?

Only thing I can think of is that the battery and cables must be great to crisply bring the starter up to speed. A reak battery or high resistance causes the motor to slowly gain speed and never provides enough acceleration to spin the drive out to the flywheel. Jim

My farmall cub did that. The new bendix did not extend far enough to engage the flywheel. Shimmed the back side of the armature to bring the bendix farther toward the flywheel.

Check to be sure the drive will screw out smoothly when checking by turn it with your hand. When looking at the starter from the drive end check to be sure that the drive extends when turning it CCW. It is possible that you have the wrong drive installed. A CW drive looks the same but operates bu turning the other direction.
