2 point vs semi mount plow

Recently purchased a 560 D and was looking into a plow for it. I was wondering what people thought about the different plows. Do the 2 point plows do a good job. I have heard that the semi mounted plows might be a little better but not sure. This plow is more for hobby plowing at plow days and tractor shows but would still like a plow to stay in the ground and do a good job.

Thanks

Plows could be ordered with different bottoms for different parts of the country. Some bottoms did a good job where the land was flat, but didn't work well on hillsides. Talk with your local dealer or a older farmer to see what kinds of bottoms work well in your area. I've used both mounted and semi mount plows and I like the fully mounted plows, but you need to add wieght to your front end when using them.

If ya want a great plow behind that 560 then find a 540 in either 14 or 16 inch bottoms and make darn sure ya get the super chief bottoms not the plow chief . Then to make it even better look for M & W Coulters for it . They are NOT a high clearance plow and they will plug in heavy corn stalks with out the M& W's . Years back my buddy and i ran two sets of 540's behind our 450 D's , mine had the M & W 's and his had the I H ones if we did not disc before we tried to plow he would plug and mine never plugged .

why?? there nothing wrong with plow chief bottoms. in fact they will last much longer than super chiefs.will put my plow chiefs to work again very soon. I even have a newer 420 3x16 plow that has plow chief slat bottoms on it. does a fine job.

It is the cost factor for the ware parts . Even back in there day a set of points would last only so long in our ground and it was not uncommon to have to change them out every couple days . Then ya had the shear then the shin , where as a super chief you have the shear and the shim , no point to buy . Today finding th point around here is a problem and best take your NITRO pills with ya when ya see the price . Oh and a slat bottom just don't get it around here . and have you priced Moldboards lately the twenty dollar Moldboards are long gone as they are now pushen over two hundred buck. Now since you are just play plowing you may get ten years out of your wear parts , But if we went back to plowing everything we would go thru no less then three sets of shears X5 and a couple sets of shins and every other year all the rest of the wear parts not to mention the extra fuel burnt . So for now the OLD moldboard plow sets in the weeds and for tillage we have a deep tillage tool that we only use once every couple years . And no till .We can replace five 7.5 inch tiger points three times for less then a total rebuild of the moldboard plow a lot less and cover more acres in less time so that means less fuel . Now the down side to this is since using less fuel we fell off the rag head Christmas card mailing list.

It's difficult to impossible to find Plow Chief parts anymore, and most plows you find are plum WORE OUT.

Super Chief parts are widely available, from your CaseIH dealer, Shoup, even many Tractor Supply stores. They still sell them on new plows.

On the plow types, a semi-mount will follow the contour of the field better than a mounted plow, and give you a more consistent plowing depth. Long mounted plows tend to dig extra-deep in the rear when a tractor starts up a hill, and go shallow when the tractor crests the top of the hill.

It doesn't start to become a problem until you get to about 4 bottoms unless you have some very steep hills in your fields. If your hills are that steep you might want to back off to a 3-bottom plow for your 560.
