IH 784 issues

My wife just inherited her dads 784 IH. It runs good has a few issues. None of the guages work. The oil pressure guage needs a new sending unit on top of the oil filter assembly. I am not sure about the temp guage. The tach cable is not hooked up . It is hanging down by the injector pump, where does it hook up to? I have the bottom draw bar but i do not have the pin that holds it in place underneath the tractor. There is no IH dealer within 100 miles. We have JD and New holland and Kubota tractors on our farm, this is our first IH. Any advice would be appreciated

100 miles is only a 2-hour drive, but call ahead first so you've at least got a snowball's chance of them actually having the parts on hand when you get there.

You can order factory parts online from many/most CaseIH dealers through partstore.caseih.com. All the parts diagrams are available there and you can look up what you need even if you don't pick a dealer and order.

I think Bates Corp. comes highly recommended as a source of parts.

Unfortunately, Carter and Gruenwald has closed its doors so they are no longer an option.

I have had good luck with Messick's. They were one of the first to offer large scale online ordering for parts.

I bought a well used/abused 784 last spring. None of the gauges or lights worked. As I chased down lighting problems (mainly poor grounding and blown fuses) the temp and fuel gauges and some of the lights in the indicator cluster started working. I would start with the easy, inexpensive things first before buying any other parts. As stated above, the on-line parts diagrams are very helpful. The 784 is a very handy tractor with a very good engine and hydraulics.
