School me on Farmall H clutch

New to me H. About three hours use since home moving snow. The engine is ok. The clutch is slow to stall the engine in second and third. Very smooth and makes no noise. Free play about right.

There are two kinds. Are any parts to be avoided or sought after. Should I not be concerned and just order a kit from here if I decide to replace the clutch.

The Rockford clutch is the only kind used now, it is heavier duty as I understand it. I have not done it but it is generally stated that the H clutch can be replaced without splitting the tractor by working through the bottom of the torque tube.

The caseih parts website does list two different clutches, there was a serial # break for which clutch you have. I have taken mine out to check it while I was working on the rear end. It can be done without splitting, but it does take some patience.

The kit from here is as good as any and priced correctly. The Rockford clutch is the only one sold today and is correct. Stay away from ceramic "puck" type clutches. Were it mine, and still holding the engine, I would wait till warmth to change it. Jim

You can change the clutch and pressure plate from underneath, without splitting the tractor. It's a little awkward at times, and you won't think that shaft will come out, but if you get it just right, it does come out.

The serial number break for the larger clutch is 391358, which is 1952 IIRC. As long as yours has a lower serial number than that, it almost certainly uses the normal H clutch. I think it's 10" in diameter.

Thanks all. That's mostly what I wanted to know.

Seems odd to me that the pressure plate needs adjustment since the truck and cars I have done did not but ok.

The super H has springs in the clutch disk like the cars and trucks I have done. Do they make one for the H ?

Do I want a clutch disk with the springs ?

The one from here is correct. The hubs have torsion springs around the center, and the friction surfaces have S springs between them on the support disk (shaped material) Jim
