will be checking my rod bearings on my farmall 300 now that i have got it unstuck what size would be standard for the crank rod to measure so i would know what bearings to order if i have to get new ones? only one piston was stuck do to the fact no one covered the exhaust with a can and water got into the one that had a open valve the rest look like new no water in oil and no oil in water

To do it right, you need to "mic" the journals, or if that"s not your thing, have a pro at an automotive machine shop do it.

On the "down and dirty" side of things, if the crank has been ground before, the undersize (US) markings will be on the bearing shells, if you clean "em up and take a close look.

You will need a repair manual to assure you have the specifications for tightening, and adjustments as well as diameters. Mic the journals in at least three places radially and left middle and right (9 readings) none should be more than .0005 from a neighbor, and none more than .001" from any other. Jim

Jim who would have a good repair manual i have operators parts and service manuals but none of them are any help Bill

This site has manuals, as does Binder Books. And the dealer/Ebay for original Blue ribbon IH manuals. JimJim

yes bob is correct, the brgs will be stamped with undersize #'s such as .010 .020 .030 and some even say standard right on them.
another thing you can do is use plastiguage to measure the clearance as it is a lot easier for beginners than trying to read a mic. put the green stuff in 3 positions in cap and install and torque to spec, then remove cap and read measurement. ideal would be .0015 but I would not be turning a crank unless it was around .003 clearance at it max. spot. do this with the old brg. and then the new one. get the idea?
these slow turning engines will run forever without being machined to new spec's.
and also the rods need to be resized also, as its just as important as doing the crank. they go hand in hand.

The bearing you remove will tell you what size to get as it will say if standard or oversize if the crank has been ground.
