My 1965 Farmall 140 is leaking hydraulic fluid from around the 2"(approximate size) plug that is hammered into the front of the lift box between the two large lift cylinders.

I know how to take the box off and remove the arm brackets. I recently did that when replacing the O-rings thinking that was my leak problem.

What is the best way to remove that plug?

How do you put a new one back in? I know you hammer it...any special techniques? How do you know how far to hammer it?

I can't find what you're talking about in the parts book. There is no 2" plug or anything that looks like a 2" plug shown.

Does it look like a "freeze plug" out of an engine block? If so, you hammer a small chisel through it and pry it out. Put the new one in exactly the same as the old. The new one should have a lip that sets the depth.

yes, it looks like a freeze plug. 2" is a guess. I"ll have to remove the lift box from the tractor before I can get to it.

Think you want 2 inch expansion plug # 172592 listed below cylinder block # 362451R92. That"s a standard size that can be found local. Remove old, clean up hole, use a little sealer, put in new and use a 3/4 or 1 inch diameter drift in the center of the plug to expand.

Thanks. Using your part #, a google search found this old thread http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=646356
