Certainly not a factory [u:092152baab]tractor[/u:092152baab] part, must have come as part of a kit for mounting a particular implement. Yes, it may be IH, but came as part of some implement, not the tractor.

oh did not know..... i thought it was orignal or stock cause the ih
numbers....still curious,,,thanks ya,,,,dewy

It is original, it is just not original on the tractor. Plows, grader blades, planters (both live plant transplanters, and seeds) cultivation attachments, middle busters, and many more were attachments mounted on the tractor frame. Some used the standard original arms, but others didn't and the "special" arms were supplied. I ran the number and found no matches on the net. Someone may have access to searching CaseIH for part numbers, but I do not know how. Jim

thats amazing..i had talked to a 85 yr old fellow the other day ..tractor parts dealer... he said he had one out there with those arms on it .. but has never even seen one an does not now what they were for ..... interesting .....dewy

Jim, I have an IHC manual numbered 19-XPC and titled "Index of Parts Numbers" which lists all the part numbers at the time it was printed on March 30, 1951. It is a listing of the part no's. used on their crawlers, wheel tractors, power units and various engines. The document lists beside the part numbers the individual parts manual where the part is shown. Unfortunately for this thread it predates the part in question but there might be a follow-on manual for later years including tractors produced following this print date. Would be interesting to see if someone might have one of the later publications if they exist, Hal.

dewy, do you know of any specialty crops that would have been grown in your area?

Maybe they're the lift arms for rutabaga knuckle harvester or something equally odd?

If I'm seeing the number correctly, it appears to be 578482R1. 578482R1, or 578482R-anything is non-existent in a master parts index dated 2/5/85. It's not listed as being available, being substituted, or being discontinued. It's not listed at all.

It's not listed in any of my substitution books going back to the mid-'70's.

Maybe someone has an earlier fiche set or parts index they can check.

Another possibility is the part number is NSS/not serviced seperately. It would have been part of a package/assembly or special attachment with that arm not being able to be purchased by itself.

Very interesting piece. If I got the number wrong, post the correct number, and I'll check again.
