450 Hydraulic Touch Control

All, the 450 Hydra-Touch System, w/ PS, will not release high pressure when returned to center. I have opened the relief/safety valve which works. The screen is clean. The system cycles very good but is in constant high pressure. I have placed the valves both in 'one-way' and 'two-way' with no change. It lugs the engine pretty good so I have not run the new engine, much, due to break-in needed, just enough to know of the hydraulic issues. Everything has been cleaned with new Hytran installed. PS works fine. Either I'm missing something or she will have to come apart. Any help is appreciated. Mark

Does the steering wheel ever seem to be "stuck" in one spot when you are driving then snap back to normal? And doe you have a stand alown power steering pump or do you run the unit off of the hydrolic system with a flow control valve?

By screen is clean, did you mean screen in reservoir or the screen in regulator valve assembly. As I don't know how far you went in the regulator valve I will just say the orfice and screen is the screwdriver slotted plug in center. Take it out, if screen isn't broken, cut end off, clean it and orfice, roll end of screen up and reinstall. Original orfice was .024, newer ones are .031 and work better. Old can be drilled even larger but not over about .040 to compensate for wear in control valve lands. Were any pins bent or broken in valves where you turn from single to double action. I have seen where they have been turned too far and bent the internal link so it is no longer positioned properly.

Mark, so you know,if it is that orfice and you want a new one, tis still available through case. I think I paid around 70.00 for one last year for my 460.

Pete the screen in the reservoir I cleaned, the screw screen at the bypass was clean. I did not take the valve apart yet as that will be a large chore. The 'one-way'/'two-way' needed attention as the link from the handle to the lever were set up but freed up with some PB and a lead headed hammer back and forth. Nick it has the Behlen stand alone. DVF thanks for the info.

She just will not bypass after detent.
