I'm meeting with an older gentleman this week to take a look at him doing an in-frame on my 674 with the 4 cylinder diesel engine. I've been told he's a good mechanic and said he would be will to do the work, but hasn't seen the tractor yet. The engine has quite a bit of blow by when hot (blowing out oil spray when being worked). I've been told that it may have a broken ring. What should I expect as a fair range for price when I talk with him? I realize that it will vary based on what he finds wrong. I don't really have an idea of what to expect. Thanks

I think dealer shop labor is on the order of $90/hr these days, maybe more.

IIRC, when having a dealer do the work, labor was about 2X the cost of parts. So overall cost was about 3X the cost of parts.
