New to tractors- IH 606

totally new to the tractor world, looking at this 1964 IH 606. It has a fast hitch system, and I would like to adapt to 3 point. My question is- In the picture below, is "knuckle" part of the hitch system, to attach a top bar to?

Thanks guys,
Jon

the "knuckle" is above the PTO and below the draped hydraulic lines. it does not freely move.

yeah, that is not a picture of the actual tractor that I am buying, the forum won't let me post pictures because I'm new.

the tractor I'm looking at has the fast hitch (withiut the conversion inserts, like in the picture above), but it does have that center clevis

That is a 3 point system with easier to couple telescopic extenders on the arms. This allows the arms to be stretched to the 3pt attachment points then backed into to latch. It is missing the top link as described in the other posts. A fast hitch has parallel sockets and no top link. Jim

Is that a picture of the actual tractor? That one is all set. A two point would mean that you did not have the swivel "eyes" on the ends of the arms. The arms would just be hollow. I don't know how tough the piece you are talking about is, but that looks just right for the top link.

Two point attachments have two arms that stick out that have a pointed hook of sorts on them. The implement slides inside the tractor arms rigidly thus eliminating the need for the top link. They would not have the pins necessary to hitch up to the arms that are on that tractor.

Yes the tractor I'm buying is definitely a fast hitch (with the hollow) arms. I know I can buy the conversion tongs, but I am wondering if I have to buy the whole 3 point conversion kit, since my tractor has that upper clevis.

Sorry to be confusing.

You will need the upper link, and attach it to the existing location. Some easy to work with adapters are available. Including those that have quick attachment and built in upper link, and those that pivot to allow easier connection to the implement pins. Jim

If that picture shows 'extendable' lower lift arms, that will extend a little and pivot so you can hitch up without jockying the tractor 1/4" this way, then 1/4" that way, then 1/8" this way..... that's the sort you want to have.

Thanks guys! this is my first tractor purchase, so I am happy to know I have the three point option built in (minus the tongs)

One thing to consider here is in some of these conversions, it may take an unusual length top link. I can't say for sure about this one, but some require a longer or shorter than generic link from TSC or whatever farm store you have near by. For example, my 240U conversion takes a really short top link. But if yours has that "yoke" or bracket, you are well on your way.

Look here forhttp://www.tonystractors.com/ the prongs you will need to buy, I do not think the site will let me post a link but you can copy and paste.
