Trans./Differential Oil in a SMTA

I have a SMTA that 25 years ago was advised to use hy-tran in rear end because it would be better for the T-A. The operators manual says to use the old SAE 80.What are you guys opinion? Gear lube or hy-tran. ? Thanks in advance,Paul

Hy Tran or equivalent only.

as said above use Hy-Tran, as long as it meet IH B6 spec.

do not use gear lube the TA unit will not work right, really bad in cold weather.

The operators manuals were all printed long before IH determined that a lighter oil improved the life of the TA. HY Tran was not available until 1958 and in the meantime the recomendation was l gal TA additive and balance use 10wt engine oil in a MTA. One quart additive to four gal engine oil. The additive has long since been out of production.
