calling...Al L in Wisc

Al, I have a question or two for you....others are always willing to
chime in. The more the merrier!!

As you know, I have a 340, gas, narrow front. I am considering
putting a loader on it, specifically an IH 2001. I have found an IH
2001 loader with a manual trip bucket. Is this a good match for my
340? What do I need to add to my 340 to make it "loader ready"?
(see pictures) Will it cost me BIG bucks to make the manual trip
bucker into a hydraulic dump? What do I need to make my 340
with power steering? Thanks!

Kirk, I recently added a 2001 loader on my 340. Mine had the single hydraulic dump cylinder. Mine easily hooked up to the pioneer fittings on the side of the tractor. I made my own front mounts and modified the frame to fit the 340, loader had been on a 656. I don't know how to post pictures on here but I sent a bunch of pictures to Weldon K who was a great help and source of info on the install. You would probably need a donor power steering unit from a similar tractor to ad power steering. Might be available new from IH.

Kirk Affeldt; do you know if that 2001 specifically was on a Farmall 340? The rear mounting of the IH sub-frame and the front mounting brackets are 340 specific.

I am sure folks will state that if you have a welder or know someone who does, you can make it work; yes, but not original. That maybe isn't of any concern to you.

No power steering = big problem. I called coast-to-coast and filled ~ seven pages with numbers looking for same for several years = no luck. As Putter says, you will most likely need to find a 'donor' 340. For the hydraulics, an aftermarket single or aftermarket twin cylinders can be added if you have the remotes on your tractor.

Depending on your purpose for a loader, a heavy load can really strain the front end.

You probably already know this but, there was an optional tine cover, material bucket and snow bucket for the IH loader. My Farmall 340 with factory utility swept back front axle WITHOUT power steering is staying that way. I really don't have a use for one and no power steering, well.....

Regarding cost, ?? Steel lines, fittings, hose(s) if you need them, do add up; but a loader can save on your back as well. I wish you luck with your project. Many good folks on this board really love their 340's. More knowledgeable folks will probably chime in so watch your post.
