Have a Hydro 84 and would like to have the 1000 RPM PTO shaft too. Can the shaft and all other needed parts from a salvage 784 or 884 be used? Looks like it could be done, but not sure.
Has anyone ever tried it?
 
I didnt know an '84' ever had a 1000 pto.A Hydro 70/86 only had 540.Iwould say no.it wont work.Even if it were possible,it would be way cheaper to just trade tractors.Convertions are pricey.If you need 1000 on a hydro,you need minimum 826hydro_Others are 1026,Hydro 100,966/10666 hydro,hydro186....
 
Was looking at the parts and service books for my 84, and the 784 and 884 looked very similar rear end wise and came with both PTO shafts, but were not hydros. Had a 544 gas hydro that I sold to my brother, and wish I had kept it. Found this Hydro 84 cheap that needed the engine overhauled, it runs well now. May be dreaming, but I would like the 1000 shaft too.
 
I have a 674 in the shop right now with both shafts and I think the rearends are similar between the two so I would say it could be done.Does your tractor have the cover plate where the 1000 shaft should be?

Yes, looking at parts book the Hydro 84 appears to have same PTO setup as 684/784.
My brother had a 1000 RPM PTO installed in his 495.
It took CasIH mechanic about 1 hour to do the job.

Installing 1000 RPM PTO:
Hi TWafer and JB2, you have to buy the 1000 rpm PTO shaft, the cover with a hole and a seal. Remove the shaft, by removing the spring pin that holds it in the PTO clutch pack, and the rear cover. Place the 1000 rpm PTO shaft in place, secure with the spring pin and bolt the cover. That's it. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Hi TWafer, yes, you remove the pin by the right round cover. Hold the clutch pack when you pull on the shaft. Make sure to align carefully the shaft with the clutch pack before you press the spring pin.
