Im looking at a 1086 for sale, the owner had it about 7 years bought it at a sale. He says it never had a TA lever in it when he got - would the TA be out and still run alright or could it have an eliminator kit on it? How can I tell- never owned a later IH tractor. THANKS

(quoted from post at 08:27:33 02/17/14) Is the T/A delete kit a good thing to install or is it better to put the T/A back in

Either way you'll only do the job once in your lifetime.

A functional TA will make the tractor more valuable and useful.

Contrary to popular belief, the TA is not a "problem area." The newest 1086's are 33 years old, and most have seen seriously heavy use. It's just plum wore out from normal use.

BTW, the hydraulic TA on a 1086 will *NOT* "run forever in high" if the low side is out. That only works for mechanical TAs.

On a hydraulic TA, if one side is out, the other is not far behind.

May be a TA delete from the factory. The 806,1066,1486 we have/had here were all factory TA deletes. They were very common around here.

I'm betting it was a factory TA delete.

Taking the TA lever off a 1086 is a lot more work than a 56 or 66 series, where it's just one bolt.

If you really want to know, look at the side of the transmission housing behind the left cab steps. There will be a roughly square plate with lots of bolt heads on it. That's the MCV. If the tractor has a TA, the will have a plunger on the top and a plunger on the rear.
