Well after much delay we finally tore down the 282D engine. Number 5 exhaust valve broke off about a 1/4" above its head jumped over and with help pounded a new hole in the head. Piston's mangled, pretty sure rod is bent, Unknown crank condition. water poured in to other cylinders thru exhaust manifold I am pretty sure. all cylinder had new pistons and sleeves -over size. Injectors were reworked. total rebuild of injector pump. Now we need to see what we can do with this mess. thanks for all the info on the 301 gas build up because it looks to be where we are going.

yeouch, how long since rebuild? could have had a valve reused that shouldn't have been in there, just a thought.

yep, it always pays to have experienced personal working on the critical things. there is more to a valve job than most realize.
