IH 574 clutch release shaft.

The tab on the clutch release shaft snapped off today pushing snow. I cannot get the shaft ( part number 398 237 r2) out. It looks like there are 2 set screws holding the clutch release fork in place. How do you get to them without splitting the tractor? I am thinking about welding the tab back on the shaft. But I will not be able to grease that side anymore if I do. Does anyone see a problem with this? If I have to I can split the tractor in the sring and change it out. Just don't want to do it outside in the snow now.

The internal attachment seems to be only the setscrews you indicate. Were it mine I would use a die grinder to groove out the original weld and then (using pulses of weld (wire welder on spot weld setting) or short touches of weld with a small diameter rod and good chipping) weld the tab back on. If the grease fitting is located in the end of the shaft, it may stay clear enough to allow greasing with a rubber tipped grease injector rather than a zerk. Jim
