Farmall Wide Front

I am interested in a wide front for my H.
Located in North central N.D. I saw somewhere a claim that
the front from an M, and an H are interchangeable. Is this true? I know its been discussed on here before, but I thought there'd be a difference in frame width. Thanks

They are not interchangeable without considerable work. An H will
generally work with a WF from a SH, 300, 350, after that I am not
sure.

You can use an 'old style' wide from an M.You have
to redrill the holes in the setback plate and bolt
it on.You can trim it to width, but its not
neccesary.The biggest/hardest thing is the
draglink.You either replace it(hard to find)or
redrill the holes. The holes for M are 1/2" further
apart (half a hole),so drilling those are next to
impossible. It is not a "bolt on" deal. But it can be
done....

To redrill the draglink holes, plug each hole with a short 'plug' of round stock.a sawed off length of #2 grade bolt will work.Tack weld the plug in to secure it. Then you can easily drill new holes. The plug will help keep the bit from running around.

An M is 2 inches wider that an H. Yes, you can drill new holes in the frame and make it fit, but then there is the issue of the steering arm that bolts to the bolster. The M and the H are different there also, and the steering arms will not interchange.

Also, if you find one that WILL fit, look it over extremely close. Every used wide front I have looked at recently is worn out, and by the time you buy the parts needed to make it 100% solid again, you will be very close to the price of a brand Schwartz.

what I"d like to know is why do you want a wide front? I know some say its safer, less prone to rollover but that"s not really true. Once you"ve got a rear tire coming up off the ground on a steep bank or hill you"re in trouble and a wide front won"t stop it from tipping, only a quick turn down the hill will save you and you can"t turn quicker or tighter than a narrow front. You can spin a narrow front tractor literally "on a dime". just wondering what the benefits to a wide front are. you sure can"t drive it back to the barn with a flat front tire like you can with a narrow front

Thanks for all the replies. I thought they were different, almost everything else is. The reason I was looking for a wide front was for use with my rake. Pretty difficult to straddle a swath with my current front. Other than that my narrow front is fine.

I put a wide on my H as well.
