Zenith Carb Help Needed

Having some trouble with a Zenith Carb off a Super C. The problem is that the fuel is leaking like the float isn't rising shutting the fuel off. I can take the bottom plug out of the bottom, turn the carb upside down and watch the float close smoothly without hitting anything. Seems to be find. My height is at 1 3/8" now, higher than the recommended 1 5/32 so it should shut off sooner.

Here is what I do not get. The fuel is coming out of the idle jet and is almost like siphoning the fuel out of the bowl After all my fuel in my stand runs out and I take the carb off the bowl is completely empty. Why would this be???? Or am I overlooking something? It is driving me crazy!

So what have you dine to it that your not telling us?? If you just rebuilt it then the seat may not be tight enough or you have the new rubber tip needle and you need to put a set in the tip so it seals. To put a set in it you drop it in the seat and tap on it a few times. Or you could have a crack in the carb body.

Ok. What haven't I done it seems like :) I replaced the needle and seat with new. I had put the needle in the seat and held up gently with my finger while turning on the gas and it held it back fine. I thought it may be leaking by the seat gasket but was good there too.

I filled the carb bowl up with gas and let sit, no leaks then but I can start to see it coming up the idle jet if I put to much in.

I was thinking the float may be too heavy BUT once I loosen the 4 screws a bit it seems to want to work. So I'm sort of thinking something is binding but not sure what could be. Any help is appreciated!

on a SW6 i accidently squeezed the double float so that it wasent spread wide enough to clear the inside of the carb.

The pressure you put on that needle is a whole lot more then the float will put on it so still good chance you need to put a set in the end of that rubber tipped needle

Do you have the correct bowl gasket. Wrong gasket will look like a good fit except it blocks the balance passage in bowl. Had that happen when I just getting into this game about 50 some years ago. Ran over like crazy. Just another possibility seeing how you have checked many things.

I have not checked that. But whenever I leave a small gap, as in .050, between bowl and upper carb portion the seat will hold like it should no matter where I set the float at.

Where is the balance passage located in bowl?

Thanks - Matt

It was the wrong gasket. I simply replaced with one that was previously on there. Well, it was wrong when I got it. After checking and rechecking everything I learned bunch. Thanks to all for the replies.
