IH Utility 300 Transmission Case Leak - Need Help

Ok...here goes. I was using my tractor the other day and noticed trans fluid running out the bottom of the tractor. I located the hole that the fluid was pouring out of and thought I had lost a plug or bolt. When I check the hole, there do not seem to be any threads to put a plug or bolt back in it. I have some pictures to help you more knowledgeable folks identify what the problem is and maybe provide me a solution. I am not sure if I can just tap the hole and put a bolt in it or if that is the wrong thing to do. Please take a look and let me know if you can help.

I am having trouble uploading the photos. Go to my dropbox to view them.

The hole is to assure that no oil builds up in that compartment. If it did it would flood the clutch. Tale a sample of the oil and put it on a piece of printer paper. then take a sample of the engine oil and put it next to the drip oil. If the same it is a rear main or cam plug leaking. If no match it is a TA seal or other transmission oil leak. In all cases it is a split of the tractor to fix it. Sorry about the news. Jim

Going to guess its from a seal or seals leaking into the T/A clutch compartment. Is it bottom of the center housing with a hole on each side of the lower rib?

Take a look at the pics I posted. I added fluid to the transmission fill hole, next to the shifter, today and the fluid that came out of the hole looked like the brand new fluid I just put in....

Go to the dropbox links I posted above in my 2nd post. It should show you the location. Hoping this isn't a major problem, but based on what I am seeing and hearing it could be.

Being that I am new to the tractor world...How much would a shop charge to fix this? Is this something that can be done in the garage with limited tools and experience?

Its leaking where I guessed which is bad news. If you plug the holes the oil will cause the T/A clutch to fail. Three seals can leak transmission fluid into there. Just as well replace all if going to a lot of work to split the tractor. center housing has to come completely out to repair all three. Just a guess but think some places will charge 1000 to 2500 or more depending what other parts are found bad.

Thank you for your help....guess I need to find another tractor. lol. I have a heavy duty front end loader for this and a backhoe if anyone is looking. Both work great.

A slight possibility that the hole had been plugged with crud and it some how opened up and let a few years of accumulated oil run out. If that is the case it would quit running out when it emptied the dry housing and probably just drip a little as you used it. I have seen them get pretty full of oil from slight leakage over the years when those drain holes plug.
