Farmall A tool set

Does anyone have a complete set of tools that came with a Farmall A. I would like to find a set for my Grandpas 46 A. If anyones has pictures I would like to see them so I know what to look for. I have the picture from the IH parts book. I didn't know if there are any markings on the tools. Thanks

some have markings, some don't. Your best bet, is to take the tool page from the parts manual, and start watching eBay. Individual pieces show up all the time, and my experience is that you will have to assemble the "kit" 1 piece at a time. Some things I am still looking for, such as the point gap / plug gap gauge.........hen's teeth are common compared to that.

The other difficult thing, is that some of the tools were NOT marked IH. Such as the screw driver and spark plug socket.

I wish you good luck, as I have been assembling tool sets for each of my tractors, and have working that adventure for 10 years now, and I am still looking for things..................

Tom Fleming,

Do you know if this stands true for the old tools for a Farmall Regular? Especially wondering about:

1.Alemite grease guns... no IHC stamp?
2.Gas pliers?... have seen many on ebay - but never one with an IHC stamp.
3. Is it safe to assume that the older sparkplug sockets were not marked IHC either?
4. Punch? Just wondering about this one because we have found the chisels are stamped on the flat part... being a punch has no wide/flat area though.

Thanks if you can help clarify. We are collecting the set of tools that would have been shipped with our Farmall Regular when it was new.

Sweetfeet, everything you have listed is NOT marked IHC to the best of my knowledge and experience. Now, the spark plug socket has some characteristics that make it somewhat easy to ID. The only reason I know for sure what it should look like, is that I was fortunate enough to actually buy a NOS one, with the parts tag still on it from a out of business dealership (actually bought it through Tom Underwood, who bought it directly from the dealer).

I have the correct pliers as well. Now, the punch and grease gun, are a guess. I know what config the grease gun needs to be from the pictures in the parts manual. My next move is to research Lincoln and Ale-mite grease guns, and see what configs they had for by each year to match that up with the F-series tractor years. Hope that helps.

I have 2 IHC marked chisels, but no punch. I don't think they were marked.

Tom Fleming,

Thank you so much for this information. I will show my husband.

We really appreciate your help very much - we don't have a tool collectors book and did not really want to buy one because the Regular tool set is the only tools we ever plan to collect.
Thanks again, very much.

Sweetfeet, you are very welcome. If you want to send me an email, I can probably fix you up with a socket and pliers. Also, the Regular/F12/F20/F30 manuals have decent pictures of what the tools look like and what was available. I have Vol1 and VolII of the tool collectors books, and they are not much help to be honest. While they are fascinating books, they don't help much for what was available for each tractor. Your absolute best bet is the IHC tractor manual for your tractor.

Tom F.,

Your email is not open on this thread. If you open your email, I will send you an email.

If you have a PayPal account - maybe we can work something out... and it could be my husband's father's day gift.

One thing... they have to be fully rusty looking (to match our rusty old tractor). Is it possible for you to email a photo of them? (This chisel photo is an example of what my husband wants all the tools to look like.)

Or if this is too much complication - just say so, it's ok.

We do have both an orginal tractor manual and a reproduction parts manual - and while the drawings are pretty decent... a few leave something to be desired. For example, on the gas pliers - it does not clearly show me if one handle-end is beveled off. On ebay, some have one beveled handle and some do not.

We bought one sparkplug socket on ebay for $4 - but husband said it does not fit right... so it will get added to a little "rust bucket" in my rust garden by our shop.

I do not know what tools came with the A. I do have a set that I used on my a. I used them to do repairs on the A. I moved and sold the A but kept the tools. I have no need for them. I can send photos if your interested.
